Mike D’Antoni has been hired as a consultant to Willie Green’s new staff at the New Orleans Pelicans, it was announced Wednesday.
Additionally, the Pelicans hired former Golden State assistant Jarron Collins to staff Green.
D’Antoni, 70, completed a season as a full-time assistant with Steve Nash’s staff with the Brooklyn Nets before recently resigning.
D’Antoni will periodically spend time with the Pelicans coaching staff during summer league, training camp and the season, sources told ESPN.
D’Antoni won the 2005 Coach of the Year award at Phoenix when Nash was his point guard, then another with the Houston Rockets in 2017. He has long been considered one of the best offensive coaches in the NBA and helped the Nets to reach the second round of the playoffs, where they lost to eventual champion Milwaukee in seven games.
Collins, a 10-year NBA veteran, had been with the Golden State Warriors since 2014 as an assistant coach.
Green and Collins were on the same Warriors staff from 2016 to 2019, before Green left to spend two seasons on the bench with the Phoenix Suns.
Collins decided to leave the Warriors in June.
