Kamaru usman, current welterweight champion of the UFC, assured that he wants to prove himself in boxing and dreams of knocking out Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez.
“I think I can do whatever my mind focuses on,” said the Nigerian during a broadcast of Instagram Live. “I do not disrespect CaneloI think he is one of the best, a star of his generation and I think he is an excellent champion. But I also know that if in the future our paths cross, maybe we will dance ”.
The Nigerian Nightmare is the reigning champion of the UFC with more successful defenses, after making four successful belt defenses. The 34-year-old has not lost since his second professional fight and maintains a record of 19 wins and just one knockdown.
Usman is the main candidate to win the fighter of the year in mixed martial arts, after achieving a pair of wins against Gilbert Burns Y Jorge Masvidal.
The knockout that he gave to Masvidal has him as one of the candidates to win the KO of the year.
The Nigerian is not the first star of the UFC who talks about facing Canelo, since previously Jorge Masvidal said in 2020 that he could have a chance to break all the pools and knock out Saul.
“He is a great boxer, my options would be limited, but I am a dog in all my fights,” he said. “My first love was boxing and if an MMA champion could come to challenge one in boxing it would be a dream. It would be a great show circle ”.
Canelo Alvarez unsuccessfully terminated negotiations with Caleb Plant for a super middleweight unification bout, for next September 18.
However, he is in talks with Dmitry Bivol to perform a match at a contract weight between 168 and 175 pounds.
