The attacker was injured in the second half of the match against Japan when he tried to hit the goal.
The attacker Diego Lainez was injured in the match between Mexico Y Japan in the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020, after receiving a blow inside the area, at minute 57. The Betis player was replaced by Uriel Antuna, with whom he alternated positions throughout the tournament.
Lainez appeared in the starting 11 of the Mexican Olympic National Team, after participating in the three previous games as a substitute. The Betis player stood out in the commitment against Japan, but could not finish the game because he had an injury that forced him to leave.
The youth squad of América was one of the main avenues for Tricolor’s attack, but a blow to his left leg made it impossible for him to continue on the field, so Jaime Lozano chose Uriel Antuna to take his place.
Lainez started the Olympic tournament as a starter in the first two games, then lost his place since the last commitment of the group stage, although he had participation in all the Olympic Tricolor games.
Prior to the start of the tournament, Lainez was singled out as one of the stars of Tokyo 2020, due to his career in European football and the performance he had had in other games with the Mexican National Team.
During the contest, Lainez gave some glimpses of his quality and his best match was his debut against the representative of France, in which he became the leader of the team led by Jaime Lozano.
Against Japan, in the match for the Bronze medal, Lainez returned to the title, but could not round off his performance, due to being injured.
