In the international windows of September and October will be played triple dates of the South American Qualifiers for the Qatar World Cup 2022, instead of the usual double rounds.
This Tuesday, August 3, the meeting of the Council of CONMEBOL, in which it was approved request triple dates “with the purpose of adjusting the competition calendar, after the suspension of the matches last March”.
In response to the request, FIFA accepted and communicated: “Taking into account the specific circumstances faced, it was decided exceptionally and only for South America to facilitate the play of an extra match in each of these windows by adding two additional days of rest.”
The calendar was modified, since the days scheduled for March 2021 were suspended due to the covid 19 pandemic and those matches will be played between September and October.
Now, it remains to know how those matches will be played, since the days suspended were the fifth and sixth, while the seventh and eighth were played before the Copa América.
The pending matches are: Colombia-Brazil, Venezuela-Ecuador, Bolivia-Peru, Argentina-Uruguay, Chile-Paraguay (date 5); Uruguay-Bolivia, Peru-Venezuela; Brazil-Argentina, Paraguay-Colombia and Ecuador-Chile (date 6).
