The tennis players who remain firm in the circuit with more than 40 years

Like every August 8, Roger Federer celebrates his birthday: this time, Su Majetad’s 40 arrived, so we review the tennis players who are still active with the same age or older.

Within the Top 100, the Swiss winner of 20 Grand Slam is the only one present with this condition, since it is ranked as No. 9 in the world. Only on September 20 will it be equaled by Feliciano lopez, who will be turning 40, as long as he manages to stay: he is currently 92nd in the ranking.

The oldest are two: the Korean Oh-Hee Kwon (1437T) and the Japanese Toshihide Matsui (881 °), both 43 years old, although with little active participation.

At 42 years old, there is only one tennis player in force, and that is Ivo Karlovic (205 °). The experienced Croatian became No. 14 in the world and, among his eight titles, he won the last in 2016. In 2021 he has played 10 games (between qualifying and main draw), of which he only won 3. He does not get two or most matches in a row since 2019, in a Challenger in the United States.

With 41 years appears Victor Estrella Burgos (1014 °): He knew how to be 43rd in 2015 and was characterized by being the three-time champion of the ATP 250 in Quito (2015, 2016 and 2017). After that, he won no more titles. With that age tStephane Robert also enlists (979 °), which made it to the Top 50 five years ago, although never won a trophy.

There are two current tennis players in addition to Federer with 40 years. The most recognized is the Austrian Jurgen Melzer (26th in doubles), which became No. 8 in the world in 2011 and, years later, tipped his career as a doubles player. This year his participation was limited only to the three Grand Slam already contested and he only obtained one victory.

Finally, the case of the Czech Jaroslav Pospisil (730 °), who plays more doubles than singles, although he was recently dabbling in Challengers and Futures. In singles, in 2021, only one match won (his rival retired in the third set).

Although they are simply data, the difference in the way in which the validity is given in each case is far from that of Federer.

Injuries prevented him from being present in a certain part of the season, but of the 14 games he played, he won 9: hHe made the round of 16 at Roland Garros (he withdrew from the tournament before playing with Matteo Berrettini) and quarterfinals at Wimbledon.
