Novak Djokovic (1st), recently participating in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, I confirm in his social networks that he will not play the Cincinnati Masters 1000, a tournament that he won in 2018 and 2020.
In his statement, the Serbian stated: “Dear Nole fans, I wanted to share with you that my recovery is taking a bit longer after a grueling trip from the Australian Open to Tokyo. Unfortunately this means that I will not be ready to compete this year in Cincinnati. So I will be focusing on the US Open and spending more time with my family. I can’t wait to see you in New York anytime soon. “

After not being present in Toronto either, Djokovic will arrive at the US Open with a month off after finishing his participation in the Olympics on July 31. During 2021, the Serbian played nine tournaments and won five of them, of which three are Grand Slam.
This will be the second time in his career that the Belgrade native has not played in Toronto or Cincinnati. The other occurred in 2017 when, due to an elbow problem, he missed from Wimbledon until the end of the year.
