Sinner suffered but became champion in Washington

Jannik Sinner (24th) had to fight and suffer to beat Mackenzie McDonald (107th) in the grand finale of Washington ATP 500. The Italian won by 7-5, 4-6 and 7-5 to lift his third title at just 19 years old.

The European and the North American staged a match to remember all the spectators present. The match had absolutely everything: magnificent points, comebacks and moments of tension.

When it seemed that Sinner lifted the trophy comfortably in the third set, winning 5-2 and with two match points in favorr, McDonald knew how to overcome that situation and get 5-5, being very close to turn the actions. But a Sinner who showed his maturity (despite his young 19 years) ended up tipping the balance of the party towards his side.

Thanks to this triumph, the Italian won his title number three in his career (Sofia and Melbourne 1 were the previous ones) and from Monday he will be Top 15 for the first time. On the other hand, McDonald, despite the defeat, will climb several positions in the world rankings and will be positioned as Top 65.
