Despite the remarks, the manager of the Dominican baseball team, winner of the Olympic bronze medal, exceeded expectations and put his name in history
Last April the departure of the then manager of the Dominican team was described as a “blow” and “an unfortunate fact”. Fernando Tatis Sr., that due to certain personal situations, he would not participate in the event.
Probeisbol So he chose a 35-year-old young man with a lot of experience in the world of baseball: development coordinator in Latin America with the San Francisco Giants and part of the operations team of the Toros del Este at LIDOM.
Things did not start well for the Dominican team led by Hector Borg, falling into the Florida pre-Olympic and having to go to Puebla to look for the Olympic ticket.
Nor did they start in the best way already in Japan, with defeats being left on the field by the local team and against South Korea, and many pointed to the manager for the decisions on the pitching staff, but after getting the bronze medal against the Koreans, precisely Borg spoke about the handling of the pitching.
“There were no doubts with the pitching issue. First time in my life as a manager that a plan is as perfect as we designed it. It was a plan that we worked on for two days and it worked perfectly ”, said the native of La Romana.

The spotlights pointed to Jairo Asencio and Borg after the first defeat. The problems came later when they fell to the United States and South Korea, but Borg was always sure of what he was doing, and despite the criticism he received, he achieved the goal of getting the first medal in the history of Dominican baseball at the Olympic Games.
“We were able to overcome adversity. The guys worked in an incredible way. Many difficult things that we have gone through, such as injuries. It’s amazing, ”Borg said.
And incredible will be his career, as he demonstrated that he has all the talent to be a manager of the highest level, and we should not be surprised if at some point, in the not too distant future, the Bulls of the East choose to designate Borg as the team foreman. We will see what their plans will be.
“I dedicate this victory to the Dominican Republic, to my family and I also dedicate it to three people who have been very important in my baseball career, Pablo Peguero, who passed away several weeks ago, Dean Treanor, my minor league director with the San Francisco Giants, and I also want to dedicate it to my grandfather, now deceased, who always wanted me to be successful in baseball, ”Borg concluded.
