(EFE) – Rosario Central could not on his court against Bragantino and lost 4-3, with three goals and an assist from Artur, in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Copa Sudamericana.
Bruno Praxedes opened the scoring at 16 minutes and Artur made the penalty 0-2 at 20. Marco Ruben discounted at 23, Artur scored again at 43 and then Central managed to reach the equalizer thanks to Ruben’s goals from 55 and Milton Caraglio at 63. However, Artur put the final 3-4 at 73 minutes.
After seven minutes, the Brazilians were inches from scoring the first goal when Raúl’s powerful mid-range shot hit the post.
Shortly after, at 16 minutes, Artur shot a soft cross from the right of attack and Bruno Praxedes headed in solitude to score the 0-1.
On the next play, the referee charged a penalty for a gentle push from Facundo Almada and Artur changed it for a goal with an accurate shot to the left of goalkeeper Jorge ‘Fatura’ Broun, who, although he chose the correct side, did not deflect the ball.
Ruben, the idol and captain of the Argentines, discounted at 23 minutes by throwing himself to the ground and pushing a cross from the right of Damián Martínez.
The Argentines trusted themselves for the goal and went in search of equality and, although they were close to achieving it, it was Bragantino who struck again.
At 43, Artur appeared on the right wing and made it 1-3 by taking advantage of an inattention from the local defenders.
Already in the second half, Ruben was again in charge of keeping Rosario Central alive. The club’s third all-time top scorer from Chile scored 2-3 in the 55th minute.
Central was in search of equality and achieved it in the 63rd minute with a header from Caraglio.
But Artur, again, took it upon himself to embitter the locals. The midfielder took advantage of another defensive error to score 3-4 in the 73rd minute. In the last minutes there were, as throughout the game, several scoring opportunities.
The return match will be on August 17 at Nabi Abi Chedid and the winner of this key will play in the semifinals against Brazilian Santos or Paraguayan Libertad.
