Opelka will play its first Masters 1000 final in Toronto

Reilly Opelka (32nd) struck the blow in the Toronto semifinals: he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas (3rd) 6-7 (2), 7-6 (4) and 6-4 in more than two and a half hours of play. In this way, after reaching his second semi-final in a Masters 1000 (the previous one had been in Rome), he managed to reach his first final in tournaments of this category.

In addition, he is the first American tennis player to access an M1000 final after John Isner (30th) in Miami 2019, when he subsequently fell in the final against Roger Federer (9th) by 6-1, 6-4. In 2018, Isner himself was champion in the same tournament, defeating Alex Zverev (5th) in the definition by 6-7 (4), 6-4 and 6-4.

Opelka waits for the winner of the match between Daniil Medvedev (2nd) and the aforementioned Isner. Should the latter make the pass, there will be an American final in this type of competition for the first time since Cincinnati 2003: Andy Roddick against Mardy Fish, with the former winning 4-6, 7-6 (3), 7- 6 (4).

For now, the 23-year-old tennis player assured himself that he was among the best 25 in the world. If you lift the trophy, you will climb and get into the ranking number 16.
