Two Argentines in the eighth of an M1000, when did it last?

Diego Schwartzman (14th) and Guido Pella (93rd) will play this Thursday the round of 16 of the Masters 1000 in Cincinnati and it will be the first time that an event of this category has two Argentines in this instance, since Schwartzman himself and Juan Martín del Potro achieved it in Rome 2019.

Two years and three months ago, Argentina had a fabulous performance at the Foro Italico. Del Potro, who has not played for more than two years, reached the quarterfinals and even had a match point against Novak Djokovic, who in the semis also ended the dream of Schwartzman. Nevertheless, Rome was the last great Masters 1000 for Argentine tennis, with two of its representatives in the round of 16 and advancing even more rounds.

In Cincinnati 2021, history repeats itself: Schwartzman defeated Daniel Evans and Frances Tiafoe. Pella did the same with David Goffin and Fabio Fognini. In case of winning, they will see the faces in quarters but, pwhatever happens, It is already a very outstanding performance for the only two Latin Americans who still dream in North American lands.
