Novak Djokovic (1st) will not face the US Open 2021 as one more tournament. Is that the major of the Big Apple It could mean the 21st in his record and he would become the tennis player with the most titles in this hierarchy. But What path separates the Serbian from the long-awaited achievement?
Being the best seeded, the Belgrade-born will make his debut in the second instance. There, if there is no surprise, his rival would be Jan-Lennard Struff (52nd) who will play against the Dutch Tallon Griekspoor (110 °). His record against the German is 6-0.
For the third round the hypothetical rival with whom he would collide would be David Goffin (30 °) -the Belgian beat him in an opportunity of eight confrontations- o Kei Nishikori (55 °), another candidate for that instance. With the Japanese they played 19 times with only two wins for the Asian.
In the fourth phase, two probable names appear to be there before the number one in the world: Alex de Miñaur (17th) or Aslan Karatsev (24th). The Russian, curiously, is tied in the record with the Serbian 1-1 and beat it in the semi-finals of the ATP 250 in Belgrade.
The quarterfinals would already mark two names of greater weight such as Matteo Berrettini (8th), rival whom he beat in the final of Wimbledon 2021 and in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros this year or the Pole Hubert Hurkacz (13th).
In the semis, the candidate with all the chips to face him would be Alex Zverev (4th), his executioner in the search for the Golden Slam in Tokyo 2020. Precisely in the Olympic event they also coincided in that round and the German won before all odds and then the gold medal would be hung.
Finally, in the other part of the table and as possible contenders for the defining match for the much-prized New York trophy would be the other two best seeded of the contest: Daniil Medvedev (2nd) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (3rd). He beat the Russian in the final of the Australian Open in straight sets while the Greek was measured in the decisive match at Roland Garros and beat him after going two sets down.
