Stade de Reims vs. Paris Saint-Germain - Match Report - August 29, 2021

(EFE) – Two goals and a commendable effort. Kylian Mbappé, whose possible transfer to Real Madrid has put the world on edge, is apparently still body and soul at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) given his performance at the Auguste Delaune stadium.

This Sunday, he scored a double, in minutes 15 and 63, against Stade Reims (0-2), which marked the long-awaited debut for Leo Messi with PSG’s number 30. He replaced his friend Neymar in the 66th minute.

In a game followed by millions of spectators, PSG established itself as the leader of the French League, with four victories in as many games.

When the score was 0-1, VAR annulled Spanish coach Oscar Gacía Junyent’s Reims for a tight offside.

Along with Messi, Mbappé was the man to watch. While PSG and Real Madrid negotiate, the prodigy of Bondy started and put the team on his shoulder. Very active inside, with several starts of his own, he scored after a quarter of an hour.

A combination of Achraf Hakimi and Angel Di María ended with a cross from the latter.

Although heading is not his specialty, Mbappé combed the ball in a great way. He celebrated it, without too much fuss, in the corner of the PSG ultras, who were in the goal in which the Parisians attacked in the first half.

The teammates of PSG number 7 embraced him effusively, forming a real pineapple.

Meanwhile, Oscar García Junyent’s Reims, faithful to the philosophy of his teacher Cruyff, made an effort to stay organized and never raffle the ball.

In the first minutes of the clash, the locals had some dangerous approach and, in the last, Cassama finished off goalkeeper Keylor Navas with danger. PSG went to the locker room giving the feeling that they did not need to mess up a lot to win.

In the second part the anxiety of the stadium increased. When were you going to see Messi in action? PSG got a scare right from the start. A defensive error ended on a counterattack play. Munetsi scored by picking up Navas’s rejection of a Toure header.

The PSG defense claimed offside. The VAR intervened and annulled the goal. The euphoria of the local fans faded. But he quickly consoled himself. At the end of the hour, the Argentine star began to warm up. The whole stadium chanted his name.

While everyone was waiting for King Messi, Mbappé increased the score in the 63rd minute. A pass from his friend Achraf Hakimi and a relentless shot in the race. He celebrated it again like nothing.

It was his third goal this season. In his four years in Paris, he already has 135 in 175 games.

At minute 66, a minute that will go down in history. Messi replaced Neymar, very off tonight, and made his official debut with a shirt other than Barcelona’s, with which he scored 672 goals in 778 games.

Still lacking in physical form, he moved to the right of the Parisian attack at the start. He launched a diagonal and combined with Mbappé, whose pass back to the Argentine was cut off by the local defense. The first connection between the two, as the desired trident could not be seen due to the absence of Neymar. After minute 80, the Argentine was fouled first.

The match lost pace due to the changes and the conformity of both teams. It finished 0-2 without major shocks. For now, Mbappé continues to score goals in France and Messi, already invested as king of Paris, hopes to do so soon.
