Francisca Mardones won the gold medal in class F54 shot put at the Paralympic Games. And not only that: he obtained it with a world record thanks to the 8.33 meters to which the bullet sent.
The Chilean athlete had already surpassed the best mark in the world in her third launch with a record of 8.21 meters. Then, it went on to hit the historic 8.33.
The podium was completed by the Mexican Gloria Zarza and the Uzbek Nurkhon Kurbanova.
In this way, Chile adds its third medal in Tokyo 2020 after the two won by Alberto Abarza in swimming (one of gold and one of silver). Thus, the best performance of the Chilean delegation in a Paralympic event continues to grow, surpassing that of London 2012 with the gold of Cristián Valenzuela.
