Alexa Grasso’s third fight at UFC 125 pounds will be a major one. The native of Guadalajara, Jalisco, has accepted a fight against Scotswoman Joanne Calderwood, on November 20, sources confirmed to Brett Okamoto from ESPN.
JoJo, 15-6 in MMA, is coming off losing to Lauren Murphy, the next challenger for the division title at UFC 263, while Grasso has two wins since moving up to flyweight first to Korean Ji Yeon. Kim and then against Maycee Barber last February at UFC 260.
Grasso (13-3), 27, entered the top 10 of his new category with that win over Barber, but had already had high-profile fights at 115 pounds, like former contender Karolina Kowalkiewicz, whom he beat in the UFC. 238 and Carla Esparza, with whom he fell in a closed majority decision in Mexico City in September 2019.
Although the promotion has not officially announced the event, it is expected to take place at UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
According to the report, Calderwood, who moved to the UFC home city to train at Syndicate MMA, also renewed with the UFC. Although he fell to Murphy, the fight was very close in June of last year and he remains sixth in the rankings in the official UFC rankings.
Grasso remains tenth, with the possibility of taking an important jump in case of defeating an opponent who already had a fight with the champion Valentina Shevchenko in UFC 251, but that event underwent drastic changes due to the covid-19 pandemic and Murphy ended up losing to Jennifer Maia, who became the challenger for UFC 255.
