Elche announced this Wednesday the addition to its squad of Argentine goalkeeper Axel Werner, who arrives at the free club after his experience in Mexican soccer.
The 25-year-old and 195-centimeter tall goalkeeper already has experience in Spanish football after his stint at Atlético de Madrid, with which he played two Champions League matches and one in the League, Huesca and Málaga.

Werner arrives at Elche with the aim of joining the competition of Kiko Casilla and Edgar Badia, and confirming himself as an option for the future for the French-green goal. He was international in the lower categories of the Albiceleste team and was in the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he was a substitute. His last team was Atlético San Luis de México, an entity in which he was on loan from Atlético de Madrid. Now it was free on the market. In both the Opening and Closing Tournament of the First Mexican, his club remained among the last two classified. Werner played the 17 days of each competition and conceded, between the two, 66 goals. In Argentina, before signing for Atleti, he was a Boca Juniors goalkeeper.
In Spain he knows the League of his time at Atlético de Madrid, a club in which he debuted with Cholo Simeone; in Huesca, also in the First Division; and in Malaga, in the Second Division. He did not have too many opportunities, but Elche sees him as an interesting goalkeeper for next season. Kiko Casilla and Edgar Badia end their contract on June 30 and it remains to be seen what their future will be.
Casilla, who has started as a starter, will have to return to Leeds United after his loan, although his wish is to put down roots in Spain. And Badia is not about to renew his contract after having gone to the bench last season, in the last eight days, and having been relegated to the substitution at the beginning of this course. As of January 1, he is free to sign in any other team with the letter of freedom.
