Travis Etienne, rookie running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars, will be out of action indefinitely after suffering a sprained midfoot during Monday night’s preseason loss to the New Orleans Saints, a LA source said. links to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The foot of Etienne, who was seen in a splint after the match, will undergo further testing.
According to ESPN injury analyst Stephania Bell, sprains in the midfoot can vary widely in terms of recovery periods and an important factor in the course of treatment will be determining whether it is stable or unstable.
Etienne caught a three-yard pass and ran once with the ball for a yard before injury.
The Jaguars drafted Etienne with the 25th overall pick in last April’s draft, and coach Urban Meyer said he planned to line him up as a receiver as well, similar to how he used Percy Harvin at the University of Florida.
Etienne left Clemson University as the leading running back in ACC history (4,752 yards).
