On Sunday September 12, South Africa will face Australia by the 3rd date of Rugby Championship and Duane Vermeulen longs for his return to the courts with the Springboks.
Duane Vermeulen suffered a severe injury that limited him from the courts in matches against the British & Irish Lions and Los Pumas. Despite being disappointed by those absences, the eighth of the Springboks already has his head set on Australia.
“It was difficult to miss the series against the Lions,” said Vermeulen, who has 54 games for South Africa. “Playing against the British & Irish Lions was a point on my wish list that I missed. But luckily I was part of the team and being on the field carrying water encouraged me.”
“My injury was a little more serious than everyone thought. I wanted to come back for the first test against the British & Irish Lions, and I tried a lot, but I spoke with Jacques Nienaber and it was not the best,” explained Vermeulen.
Now, the eighth champion in the 2019 World Cup puts the focus directly on the Rugby Championship and the remaining matches: “Now I really want to play and do it in the best way.”
