Indians vs. Royals - Game Report - August 31, 2021

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (AP) – Amed Rosario became the first player on record to hit 5-5 with five RBIs, one homer from the field and another over the fence in the Cleveland game. The Indians beat the Kansas City Royals 7-2 on Tuesday night.

The Dominican had five RBIs for the first time in his career, and equaled his best record in hits. At least since 1920, when RBIs became an official statistic, no one had gone 5-for-5 with five RBIs and both types of home runs in the same game, according to the STATS firm.

“I always want more and I plan to achieve more,” Rosario said.

Zach Plesac (9-4) pitched a two-hitter over seven innings without conceding a touchdown. He struck out seven and did not walk out a single walk.

“There was control on the straight all night,” Plesac stressed. “This opens up opportunities for speed change.”

Plesac even controlled Salvador Pérez, who had homered in his last five games. The Venezuelan went 3-0 in the match.

In his career against Plesac, he is 5-0 with three strikeouts.

Jakob Junis (2-4) allowed three touchdowns and four hits in 4 2/3 innings. Rosario pushed all three runs.

Rosario showed off her speed to hit the inside-the-park home run in the first inning, when her drive sent the ball just out of reach of right fielder Edward Olivares.

The Venezuelan ranger fell as the ball slipped away. Rosario thus had the opportunity to get Cleveland’s first home run since August 24, 2018, when Jason Kipnis got one precisely in Kansas City.

“When I connected and the ball hit the wall, I was looking for a triple,” Rosario said. “When I crossed second and saw (third-grade coach Kyle Hudson) wave his arms, I realized it was going to be a home run, and I kept going.”

For the Indians, the Dominicans Rosario 5-5 with two runs scored and five RBIs, José Ramírez 5-0, Franmil Reyes 4-0.

For the Royals, the Venezuelans Pérez 3-0 with a scored, Edward Olivares 3-0. Carlos Santana 4-1 with an RBI. Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rivera 2-0 with a run scored.
