Kelvin Gastelum loses to Jared Cannonier and remains in free fall

The Mexican American was defeated by unanimous decision and suffered the fifth loss in his last six fights.

The Mexican American Kelvin Gastelum suffered a new defeat which takes him further away from the possibility of fighting again for a starting shot at middleweight in the UFC.

Gastelum fell for unanimous decision versus Jared cannonier with identical cards 48-47 after five rounds in the main event on UFC Fight Night at APEX in Las Vegas.

This was the fifth loss for Gastelum in his last six fights and stalled at 16-8, while Cannonier he improved to 14-5, rebounding from his recent unanimous decision loss to former champion Robert Whittaker.

After five intense rounds, this fight could be a serious candidate for fight of the year.

“It’s always glorious to fight five rounds with a guy like Kelvin at that level, “he stated Cannonier after the fight. “Winning is even more glorious, I’m happy.

“I’m broke, so I need to fight. I hope I get a title shot. But the right name might make me say yes.”

In the co-star fight, Mark madsen defeated veteran by split decision Clay guida in his lightweight and heavyweight fight Parker porter defeated by unanimous decision Chase sherman.

The undercard also featured the Brazilian flyweight contender. Alexander Pantoja, who submitted in two rounds with a strangulation from the back to Brandon royval, in addition to the Chilean Ignacio Bahamondes that he defeated with a spectacular knockout of Roosevelt roberts with a head kick in his lightweight fight on the undercard.
