A UFC veteran and top contender is out of the PFL playoffs. Larissa Pacheco failed to make weight Wednesday morning by two pounds and is out of her semifinal fight scheduled for Thursday with Taylor Guardado, league officials told ESPN.
Due to the weight failure, Pacheco is also out of the PFL women’s lightweight playoffs entirely. Mariana Morais, who was the tallest seeded player who did not make the playoffs initially, will step in and face Guarded on Thursday night in Hollywood, Florida.
Pacheco weighed 158 pounds Wednesday morning, officers said. The Brazilian is a former PFL women’s lightweight runner-up and was one of the favorites to return to that spot, as well as being arguably the toughest test on the list for favorite Kayla Harrison, the former two-time Olympic judo champion. . Pacheco, 26, won both PFL regular season fights this year by first round KO / TKO. Her only two losses since she was released by the UFC in 2015 were against Harrison.
Morais was originally scheduled to fight Claudia Zamora in Thursday’s PFL preliminaries. Now, with Morais advancing to the playoffs, Zamora will face Marina Mokhnatkina, whose starting opponent Kaitlin Young is out for undisclosed reasons.
In the main event, Harrison will look to return to the PFL $ 1 million championship fight in the semifinals against Genah Fabian. The winner of that fight will face the winner of Guardado vs. Morais at the end of the year for the jackpot.
Due to the changes, the PFL card will begin at 6 pm ET Thursday night on ESPN + with the main card beginning at 9 pm ET.
