Qualifying players achieved a historic mark at the US Open

The German Oscar Otte (144 °) was in charge of giving another blow at this US Open: defeated, in the third round, Andreas Seppi (89th) by 6-3, 6-4, 2-6 and 7-5. The Italian had just beaten nothing more and nothing less than Hubert Hurkacz (13th).

With the victory of Otte, he joined his compatriot Peter Gojowczyk (141 °) and Botic van de Zandschulp (117 °), as three players from qualifying within the round of 16 at Flushing Meadows. It is the first time, since Roland Garros 1995, that this number of tennis players reach this stage: Scott Draper, Younes El Aynaoui and Adrian Voinea did it at the French Open.

This brand occurs for the first time in the Open Era in New York. The maximum had been two, in 2000. On the other hand, there is a duo of qualifiers from the same country, in the round of 16. This had not happened since Australia in 1993: at that time, Chris Garner and Jones, from the United States.
