The Colombian National Team will look to Paraguay for its second away victory in the Qatar Qualifiers

After obtaining a draw against Bolivia as a visitor, at the height of La Paz, the Colombian National Team of Reinaldo Rueda faces the second duel of the triple date of the Qualifiers heading to Qatar 2022. For day ten of the qualifiers, La Tricolor will visit Paraguay at the Defensores del Chaco stadium, in a clash that is very important for the aspirations of qualifying for the World Cup.

After seven games played, the Colombian team is currently fifth in the standings with nine points, product of two victories, three draws and two defeats. In the current Qualifying Round, the coach of the coffee team is undefeated, since he officially debuted in his second process as DT of the senior team in June 2020 with a win against Peru and a draw against Argentina at the Metropolitan Stadium of Barranquilla. .

The work he has been doing with the players summoned during their arrival at the Tricolor since the last qualifying round and the seven games played in the Copa América in Brazil, have been vital for Rueda to find the team. The Valle del Cauca coach has tried different tactical modules, in which he has consolidated an idea with important players such as Daniel Muñoz on the right side; Wilmar Barrios and Matheus Uribe in the midfield and Luis Díaz as a winger down the left wing. He also brought together several footballers who had been relegated by the previous coach, Carlos Queiroz, such as Miguel Ángel Borja and Rafael Santos Borré.

In the same way, he took advantage of the level of several footballers of the Colombian League to take them into account and call them for the triple date of September. He did a Morphocycle where he evaluated the characteristics of some players, of which he ended up summoning Andrés Román, Andrés Andrade, Baldomero Perlaza, Yerson Candelo, Álvaro Montero, Andrés Llinás, Dairon Mosquera and a known man he had in his cycle with Atlético Nacional , Alexander Mejía.

Reinaldo Rueda also surprised with some names that had been away from the Colombian National Team for a long time, such as striker Radamel Falcao García and midfielder Juan Fernando Quintero. Likewise, he again caused a controversy throughout the country for not including James Rodríguez at the wheel, who was physically recovered, but without many minutes at Everton.

The coffee team also had very important casualties for the qualifying matches, as Duván Zapata and Luis Fernando Muriel were injured at the beginning of the season in Italian football with Atalanta. In addition to them, defender Yerry Mina suffered an injury at Everton that prevented him from traveling at the last minute.

Given the absences in the attack, coach Rueda spoke at a press conference about one of the players who replaced them and who started the game against Bolivia. Roger Martínez is one of the DT’s options to face the dangerous Paraguay.

“Very happy and content for the performance of Roger Martínez (…) He was very well received by the group, he worked very well (…) He played a very good game, not only because of the goal, but for everything he did tactically, what he contributed to the National Team and we hope we can have it for the rest of the games “, said the coach.

The strategist also spoke about what he plans to raise in the city of Asunción and did not rule out the idea of playing with two forwards: “It is one of the alternatives, we worked on it a little yesterday, we did a very short job, sometimes with Falcao and Borja and others with Borré and Falcao. It is one of the possibilities we have, it is important that there is a good timing (…) It is a very valid bet ”.

In the same way, he made a detailed analysis about his next rival and his virtues playing at home.

“Everything will happen as we assimilate their proposal, undoubtedly it will be a team that will make an offensive proposal as is typical of Paraguay here as a local. (…) It will be important what we do in possession and control of the game (…) They will see spaces and to the extent that we interpret them from the bottom it will be important (…) The aspiration is to win (…) the illusion we have (…) We are going to play it and we hope to win it ”.

The Paraguay National Team is in sixth place in the Qualifiers with seven points, the product of a victory, four draws and a defeat. At home they have not been able to win and have two draws and one defeat against Brazil. In their last match, they lost 2-0 against Ecuador, as a visitor, at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado stadium, in the city of Quito. In the last Copa América, it has been eliminated in the quarterfinals against Peru, in a match that ended 3-3 level and had to be defined from the penalty spot.

The last match between Colombia and Paraguay was in the Copa América in Brazil 2019 and was a 1-0 triumph for the Tricolor with a goal from Gustavo Cuellar at the Arena Fonte Nova. The last Colombian presentation in Asunción was also a 1-0 victory thanks to Edwin Cardona’s solitary score.
