The Blues celebrate by Leon MacDonald, who led them to win the Trans-Tasman Super Rugby title, as he will remain with the Auckland-based team as head coach for two more years.
MacDonald took over as head coach in 2019, and quickly conveyed an improvement in the team alongside a new group of coaches that included Tom Coventry, Daniel Halangahu, Tana Umaga and Ben Afeaki.
The former All Black went on to coach after an injury forced him out of the game, creating an impressive record as head coach at the Tasman Mako before heading north to the Blues.
When Tana Umaga decided to leave the role of head coach of the Blues to become a defensive coach, MacDonald took over the team.
The 43-year-old said he was willing to sign for an additional two-year term.
“From a rugby point of view, this club has made great strides, but we know there is much more to do. We also know that there are a lot of talents here and our development as a Super Rugby club has a lot of potential, ”said MacDonald.
