The Tampa Bay Rays have placed pitcher Chris Archer on the 10-day disabled list for hip discomfort.
Archer left a start Aug. 22 in the second inning because of a strained left hip, but he has made three starts since then.
The 32-year-old right-hander missed more than three months this season after leaving an April start with a stiff right side forearm. Its abbreviated start on August 22 had been its first appearance since April.
Archer is 1-1 in six appearances in his first season back with Tampa Bay after being traded by the team to Pittsburgh in 2018.
As Archer makes it to the disabled list, the Rays, leaders of the AL East, are recovering two players from injury.
The Rays activated reliever Nick Anderson (right elbow sprain) from the 60-day disabled list and outfielder Brett Phillips (right ankle sprain) from the 10-day disabled list.
The team also designated reliever Shawn Armstrong for the assignment.
