For the first time in the Champions League Nathan Aké scored and did so a few minutes before his father died from a disease for which there was no longer any treatment.
Manchester City defender Nathan Aké revealed that his father passed away minutes after he scored his first Champions League goal against RB Leipzig.
The Dutch defender opened the scoring in City’s 6-3 win against the Germans on Matchday 1 of the Premier League. In a post on Instagram, Aké revealed that her father, Moise, passed away a few minutes later.
“The last few weeks have been some of the hardest of my life. My father has been very ill and there was no possible treatment. I have been fortunate to have the support of my fiancee, my family and my friends. Yesterday it was a difficult day, because I scored my first goal in the Champions League just a few minutes before my father died“Aké said.
“Seeing me play always made him very proud and happy,” he added.
