The UFC fly champion, Brandon Moreno, will defend his belt at the closing of the trilogy against the Brazilian Deiveson Figueiredo, as sources confirmed to ESPN Deportes that both parties have agreed to fight on December 11 at UFC 269, to be held in Las Vegas. , Nevada.
Moreno, who is 19-5-2, has not lost in six fights since his return to the UFC in September 2019 and has just beaten Deiveson at UFC 263 by mataléon in June. The fighter from Tijuana, Baja California, posted a photo this afternoon on his social networks with the image of submission, as “a reminder” of what happened in the last match.
Before they saw each other at the UFC Apex in December 2020, when after a deduction in the third round, the cards ended in a majority draw that kept the South American as champion.
Figueiredo presented serious problems to make weight in last June’s fight and it was one of the main reasons why it was doubted that he could have a rematch. For this reason, in recent weeks his compatriot Alexandre Pantoja had emerged as a possible challenger, who beat Moreno twice and challenged him after a victory over Brandon Royval on August 21. However, Pantoja carries a six-month medical suspension imposed after the fight that would make him eligible until the end of February 2022
Moreno, the first Mexican-born champion in the history of the UFC, has moved to Las Vegas and although he will continue his visits to Tijuana for his camps, he had expressed the intentions of having his first defense in his new home, before the end of the year.
With this fight, UFC 269 would have at least two championship fights, as the promotion has announced Amanda Nunes defending the 135-pound belt against Julianna Peña. In addition, the fight between Charles Oliveira and Dustin Poirier for the 155-pound title could be finalized.
