CINCINNATI (AP) – Clayton Kershaw pitched five solid innings for his first win since June 27, Gavin Lux and Corey Seager hit home runs and the fiery Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Cincinnati Reds 8-5 on Sunday.
Will Smith joined the home run party for the Dodgers, who have won eight of the last new games, and who started the day two games behind the San Francisco Giants in the NL West.
The Reds lost their eighth series in a row, after starting the day two games behind the St. Louis Cardinals for second place as a wild card in the National League.
Kershaw (10-7) allowed a run and three hits, struck out eight and did not walk. He pitched at Cincinnati for the first time since 2013. The three-time Cy Young winner missed two months of action with a sore left elbow and pitched four 1/3 innings on Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Wade Miley (12-7), the losing pitcher, continued to struggle, allowing six runs on nine hits in his shortest outing of just three innings.
For the Dodgers, Albert Pujols went 3-0 with a run scored.
For the Reds, Cuban José Barrero 3-0. Venezuelan Eugenio Suárez 3-0. The Dominican Aristides Aquino 2-0.
