The Brazilian Rugby Confederation chose to declare from this 2021 the date of September 20 as “Rugbier Day”, in order to honor all those who are part of this sport both on and off the field.
The reason for choosing the date is to commemorate the birth of Argentine Diego Padilla, a former player and coach of the Brazil national team who died in 2019 at the age of 59.
“Diego Padilla was one of the most supportive and honored people in Brazilian rugby, taking the values of our sport wherever he went. In addition to being a spectacular player, he coached and helped build rugby off the pitch. Diego is someone who symbolizes the best of rugby and we believe that the date will reinforce everything we seek to transmit through sport ”, he declared Martín Jaco, President of the Board of Directors of the confederation.
