CÁDIZ (EFE) – Barcelona drew 0-0 tonight with Cádiz at the Nuevo Mirandilla stadium, in a match in which the Catalans ended up with ten players due to the expulsion of Frenkie de Jong (m.63), and his coach Ronald Koeman at added time.
After this result, Barcelona adds 9 points in the standings and Cádiz six.
Barcelona lined up Gerard Piqué and Óscar Mingueza as starters in defense instead of Eric García and the injured Alejandro Balde with respect to the last line-up that was measured at Granada.
In the center of the field, the youth squad Pablo Martín ‘Gavi’ replaced Sergi Roberto and up front the Dutchman Luke de Jong took the place of the Brazilian Philippe Coutinho.
In the first half, Koeman’s team led the game, touching the ball in the midfield, although without being able to reach the Cádiz area in search of the goal in danger.
Cádiz guarded its goal with a defensive system characterized by order and solidarity among the team members, obeying the instructions of its coach, Álvaro Cervera.
Cádiz was left without one of its pillars, the midfielder Rafael Giménez ‘Fali’, who fell injured in one knee when he stepped badly in a delivery. Danish Jens Jonsson came in his place.
The Barça team noticed suffocation in their game, it was dark in circulation and lacking in freshness.
After the restart, Cervera put the cards of ambition on the table lining up the speedy Salvador Sánchez ‘Salvi’ on the right wing.
On the first play, the Cádiz team had a great chance, with a shot by Álvaro Negredo to which the German Ter Stegen responded with a good save (m.46).
In these first minutes, the Catalans tried to close in on the Cadiz team’s goal with a more agile game than in the first half.
Memphis Depay hit him from the front and the Argentine Jeremías Conan Ledesma, very attentive, stopped the Dutchman’s dry shot below with his right hand (m.51).
The boxed defense of the cadistas was a burden for Barcelona, unable to break down the entrenched wall of Cervera’s pupils and at a disadvantage after the expulsion of Frenkie de Jong for two yellow cards in three minutes.
Cádiz had their best chance in a double shot, first by Salvi who stopped Ter Stegen and then in a shot outside the rejection by Rubén Sobrino with all the goal for him (m.80).
The last clear opportunity was for Barcelona, after a play by Piqué that Memphis failed to score (m.92).
