The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Thursday that they have extended manager Torey Lovullo’s contract for one year, through the 2022 season.
The Diamondbacks also have a club option for the 2023 season, according to multiple reports.
Lovullo’s extension comes with the Diamondbacks in last place in the NL West with a 48-104 record entering Thursday’s game against the Atlanta Braves.
Lovullo, 56, has been Arizona’s manager since 2017 and is 333-365 in five seasons. He had scored three consecutive winning seasons before Arizona finished 25-35 in the 2020 pandemic-shortened season.
His best season came in 2017 when he led the Diamondbacks to a 93-69 record (second in the NL West) and a wild-card game win over the Colorado Rockies before Arizona was swept in the Series. Divisional by Los Angeles Dodgers.
