The Selection Sub 23 of the Dominican Republic they defeated the German team 8-4, in what was the first match of the Caribbean in the tournament.
With a torrid offense that included three homers and 10 hits in total, the Dominicans finally played at Yaquis Stadium in Ciudad Obregón, after the game that was supposed to be the opening Thursday night against Cuba was suspended due to rain.
Dominican opened the scoring at the top of the second inning with a two-run homer from left fielder Francis Florentino but the Germans’ response came immediately to put the game 2-1, in an episode where starting pitcher Nelson Tavarez had some problems with his control.
The Dominicans extended the lead with a four-lap fourth inning that included an RBI double of Lisandro Quinonez and another two-run homer, this time by the right fielder Sandro Fabian.

The Dominican Republic team added one more run in the top of the fifth before German Lou Helmig hit a three-run homer that brought the game closer to 7 runs by 4.
