CUBA suffered in the end, but won as a visitor to Alumni

CUBA beat Alumni fairly by 28 to 25 in a key duel for the ninth date of the URBA Top 12 and thus he recovered from the bitter defeat he suffered last week against the SIC.

Villa de Mayo’s team was coming off a 13-8 loss to the tournament’s first team, SIC, while Alumni came into the game after a valuable win over Newman in Benavídez. However, in the premises the casualties of Mariano Romanini and Máximo Provenzano due to accumulation of yellows, although in the substitute bench those of Tortuguitas had the brand new return to rugby in Buenos Aires from Santiago Gonzalez Iglesias.

From the opening whistle it was CUBA who imposed their game and supremacy on the court. With the formula of the devastating mauls, he cornered the Tortuguitas in his ingoal during the first minutes. Thanks to the pack of forwards, the University Club of Buenos Aires quickly scored a difference of three converted tries and walked away in the result. Despite their bewilderment for the first half, the locals were able to support the rival ingoal to be able to go to the dressing room with some points in their pockets.

The second half was not only a separate game, but it was also a 180 degree change on the part of Alumni in their attitude. Seven minutes later there was a special moment: ex-Puma Santiago González Iglesias entered, who had not played in rugby in Buenos Aires since 2014. Everyone applauded, their own and others, and shouted a breath of emotion to see him wear again the shirt of the club of his loves.

Then, the owner of the house in just five minutes met the CUBA ingoal twice to put pressure on the visitor, who was very uncomfortable and suffering during the final forty minutes. Despite his blackout in the game, he appeared for Benjamin Ocampo’s key try that gave him security on the scoreboard. But those of Tortuguitas did not give up and continued to dominate the ball. Although his push was late and could not change the history of the game.

In this way, Alumni descends to sixth position and, the next date, they will face off against the leader of the URBA Top 12, the San Isidro Club. While CUBA climbs to the fourth position and will receive Pucará in Villa de Mayo.
