FOXBOROUGH (AP) – Jameis Winston threw two touchdown passes, Malcolm Jenkins returned an interception for a touchdown and the New Orleans Saints they defeated this Sunday 28-13 New England Patriots.
A week after having the worst passer rating of his career, Winston showed better control of the offense by completing 13 of 21 shipments for 128 yards. Taysom Hill ran for a touchdown and Alvin Kamara had 24 carries for 89 yards.
The rookie quarterback of the Patriots, Mac Jones, started the day hoping to be more vertical after two games in which the passing attack relied mainly on short passes. Instead, he found himself under pressure for much of the game and finished with three interceptions, two of which became touchdowns by the Saints. New orleans he sacked Jones three times and hit him 11 times. He finished 30-of-51 for 270 yards and a touchdown.
The deep of the Saints, PJ Williams returned Jones’ first interception for 46 yards, opening the door for Winston’s 7-yard touchdown delivery in the second quarter.
Jenkins was the benefactor of the second interception, landing a pass that tight end Jonnu Smith couldn’t control. He returned it 34 yards to put the Saints to the front 21-3.
The Patriots they cut the margin to 21-13 after Jones’ 22-yard pass to Kendrick Bourne with 9:22 left. The Saints they responded with a 13-play, 75-yard drive that consumed 6:45 minutes and concluded with Hill’s 4-yard drive into the end zone to make the score 28-13.
