It is the story of the day. It happened in Bulgaria and it didn’t need a Top Ten or a glittering name. It happened in the first round match of the Sofia Tournament that ended with the defeat of Jaume Munar against Marcos Giron by 7-6 (2), 1-6 and 4-6, in a match that lasted almost three hours.
Munar, number 70 in the ATP ranking, managed to prevail in the first set, marked by equality and the success in the service of both tennis players, after a tiebreak that he dominated from the beginning (7-2).
The American, number 67 in the world, took advantage of the mistake in his rival’s serve to win the second set and take the match to a third set.
The outcome was not a simple thing. Ten match points! and about 20 minutes (with three break points) lasted the last game that included: two double faults, two Munar winners, two forced errors and four unforced errors.
Now, the winner will face in the round of 16 the third seed of the tournament, the Australian Álex de Miñaur, number 26 in the world, who will debut with that confrontation.
