Freedom vs. Red Bull Bragantino - Game Report - September 29, 2021

Argentine striker Tomás Cuello, with a double, and Arthur, were the executioners of Paraguayan Libertad on Thursday, who accused the two goals against conceded in the first leg and succumbed 1-3 before the lethal counterattack of the Brazilians, who get into in the final of a continental tournament for the first time in its 93-year history.

The Paraguayans remain at the gates, in their third semifinal, and despite the fact that they had scoring chances they found a wall in the goalkeeper Cleiton.

Those from Sao Paulo will play the Cup against the winner of Thursday’s match between Athletico Paranaense and Uruguayan Peñarol, in the second semifinal.

The advantage of the first leg forced Libertad to look from the opening whistle for the goal, which Lorenzo Melgarejo had in his boots, in a shot that was stopped by Cleiton.

The play was immediately answered by the Brazilians, in a counterattack culminated from outside the area by Cuello, with a left-footed shot that penetrated the goal of Martín Silva after being deflected with a head by defender Alexander Barboza.

Libertad squandered the opportunity to tie in the 15th: a penalty by Fabricio Bruno slapping Óscar Cardozo, and executed by Diego Viera innocently, with a shot that Cleiton blocked without problems.

Not being yielded Gumarelo, who made a tremendous wear, with “Tacuara” Cardozo and Melgarejo as the most incisive.

In the 33rd minute, Melgarejo dodged three defenders and it was the stick that prevented the tie: Five minutes later Cleiton blocked a dangerous shot from Julio Enciso.

Bragantino broke the rival in his few counterattacks, the last of that phase in 40, leading to Eric Ramires, who fired point-blank into the body of goalkeeper Silva.

Melgarejo was the one who gave the wake-up call at the beginning of the second, first with a crossed ball that Cleiton saved with his foot, and a few minutes later with the equalizer header, after a perfect pass from Hugo Martínez.

The joy in the premises did not last long, because in 52 Cuello made his second after kicking a ball, courtesy of Arthur, who beat Silva.

From there Libertad was deflated, which practically threw in the towel.

So Arthur did not forgive and, unmarked, nailed the third to Silva, leaving the aggregate score at 5-1.
