The 2021 Ballon d’Or will be awarded on November 29, after last year the prestigious award given to the best footballer of the year was suspended due to the pandemic and the suspension of some competitions, reported this Wednesday France Football.
On October 8, the 30 players who will compete for the award will be announced, chosen according to the vote of 180 journalists from around the world.
The Ballon d’Or award ceremony will take place at a gala at the Châtelet Theater in Paris, the same place where Lionel Messi received it for the sixth time in 2019.
France Football On the same day, it will also award the Women’s Ballon d’Or, the Kopa trophy, to the best player under 21 years of age, and the Yashin trophy, to the best goalkeeper.
The 20 candidates for the Women’s Ballon d’Or, which the American Megan Rapinoe won in its only edition so far, will be chosen by a jury of 50 journalists specializing in sports football.
As for the Kopa trophy, won in its last edition by the Dutch Matthijs de Ligt, it will be 32 former winners of the Ballon d’Or who will decide the 10 candidates, while the 10 applicants for the best goalkeeper trophy to replace the Brazilian Alisson Becker will be chosen by the same jury as for the men’s Ballon d’Or.
