End of the dream for the Peque. Diego Schwartzman (15th) fell 6-1, 7-5 to Andrey Rublev (5th) and was fired from San Diego’s ATP 250 in the quarterfinals.
The Argentine starred in a bad first set in which the Russian overwhelmed him on all lines while in the second, the Peque managed to settle much better on the court and he came very close to forcing the tiebreak.
With this defeat in the quarterfinals, Schwartzman has already reached seven months without breaking into the top four in an ATP tournament. The last time he did it was in the ATP 250 from Buenos Aires, in which it was champion before Francisco Cerundolo.
The next goal of the best albiceleste racket will be at the Indian Wells Masters 1000. There he will play again after two years (in 2020 it was not disputed due to the Covid-19 pandemic) and his best performance was in 2019 when he got into the third round and lost to Rafael Nadal.
