FRANCE – Stade Rennes ended PSG’s undefeated status of Messi, Neymar and Mbappe by defeating the Parisian team, which is still the leader, 2-0 on matchday 9 of the French championship, with 6 points ahead of them Lens.
The first goal came to the brink of halftime. Gaetan Laborde received a ball pumped into the area and beat Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma near the left post.
The first half ended with 1-0, and the second just started, in the 46th minute, Flavien Tait hooked a great volley inside the area that sneaked into PSG’s goal. The referee, after consulting with the VAR assistants, gave validity to both.
PSG’s touch game only served to gain possession statistics, as their combinations failed to pierce the home defense despite their impressive offensive trident.
In 68, Kylian Mbappé scored a low shot near the left post, but the VAR decreed that there was offside and the goal was not validated.
In 82, the referee awarded a penalty on a tackle by Achraf Hakimi to Ruddy Buquet, but reversed his decision after consultations with the VAR.
With this defeat, PSG, who had won their eight previous games, let their first points in the French league slip away.
