HOUSTON – Dominican left-hander Framber Valdez will start for the Houston Astros in Game 2 of the American League Division Series on Friday against the Chicago White Sox.
Manager Dusty Baker announced the decision Tuesday, but did not reveal his rotation beyond Game 2.
Previously, the Houston helmsman had indicated that Lance McCullers Jr. will open the series on Thursday.
Valdez had 11 wins this season, a career high, with 125 strikeouts and a 3.14 ERA in 22 starts. It was his best season since his rookie year in 2018. The 27-year-old pitcher missed the first 49 games of the season after breaking his left index finger on his first outing in spring training.
He made his postseason debut last year and was 3-1 with a 1.88 ERA in four games, three as a starter.
