Seven players from the Uruguayan National Team drag a yellow in the Qualifiers and could miss Sunday’s game against Argentina in the Monumental de Núñez, in case they were reprimanded on Thursday against Colombia in the Gran Parque Central.
Defenders Diego Godín, Josema Giménez and Sebastián Coates, and midfielders Matías Vecino, Federico Valverde, Nahitan Nández and Rodrigo Bentancur, are the players summoned by Maestro Tabárez for this triple date in October who are ‘in the chapel’.
Forwards Maxi Gómez and Jonathan Rodríguez also carry a yellow, but they were not summoned by the celestial coach for these matches against Colombia, Argentina and Brazil.
Beyond the fact that for Uruguay the game against Colombia is considered the most important on this triple date, there is some concern about the number of casualties that could be against Argentina, especially in defense and in the midfield. Currently, Nández, Godín, Giménez, Valverde, Vecino and Bentancur are starters in the Uruguayan team.
Coates, Bentancur and Gómez were reprimanded on the first date (October 2020 against Chile). Nández received the yellow on the visit to Colombia on date 3 and on the fourth match against Brazil, against whom Martín Cáceres, Giménez, and Jonathan Rodríguez were also booked (in that meeting Edinson Cavani was expelled for a direct red card).
As they were suspended, neither Nández nor Cavani could be in the next match (0-0 tie with Paraguay in the Centennial). In that match against the Guaraní team, the midfielders Valverde, Vecino and Bentancur were cautioned, the Juventus player reaching his second accumulated yellow that prevented him from facing Venezuela.
In that clash against Vinotinto (equality without goals in Caracas in June of this year), Cáceres was reprimanded, who happened to be suspended to play against Peru in September. In Lima, captain Diego Godín was strong in the first half against Paolo Guerrero and saw the yellow card.
Later, La Celeste did not have players admonished against Bolivia, but they did against Ecuador: Bentancur and Nández, who were already suspended in these Qualifiers, were once again in the chapel.
Thus, these seven players of the Uruguayan National Team are reached who, if they are reprimanded against Colombia, will miss the match against Argentina next Sunday.
