ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Shane McClanahan will start Game 1 of the American League Division Series Thursday night.
Rays manager Kevin Cash confirmed McClanahan’s assignment ahead of practice Tuesday.
Tampa Bay also called for rookie Shane Baz to start Game 2 on Friday night. Depending on the use of the bullpen in the first two games, Cash noted that Drew Rasmussen will “possibly” start the third game.
The Rays will face the winner of the wild card game between the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.
McClanahan, who last year became the first pitcher to make his major league debut in the postseason, was 10-6 with a 3.43 ERA in 25 starts this season.
Baz, a member of the United States team that won the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics, rounded a 2-0 mark with a 2.03 ERA after being promoted from Triple-A in the last month of the regular season.
