Brewers opts for Burnes to open against Braves, Woodruff goes second

MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Corbin Burnes will start Game 1 of the National League Division Series on Friday against the Atlanta Braves.

On Tuesday, the Brewers announced that Burnes (11-5 with a 2.43 ERA) will open the game and right-hander Brandon Woodruff (9-10, 2.56) will start Game 2, scheduled for Saturday.

The Braves opted for right-hander Charlie Morton (14-6, 3.43) for the first game and left-hander Max Fried (14-7, 3.04) for the second.

Burnes led the NL in ERA this season, striking out 234 and walking just 34 in 167 innings.

In his only starter game against the Braves this season, Burnes allowed five runs and nine hits in four innings. Still, the Brewers won 9-5 on July 30. Morton started against the Brewers once and was 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA.
