Norma Baylon will be in charge of delivering the trophy to the champion of the first Argentina Open WTA 125K, Sunday, November 7.
A tennis player with a notable career in the 60s, Baylon was the first Top 10 that our country had, considered N ° 4 in the world in 1966, in addition to having been the best Argentine tennis player for six consecutive seasons between 1962 and 1967. In 1964 she was the first player and captain of the current Billie Jean King Cup, the year in which she reached the final of Roland Garros in doubles, while that in singles, throughout his career, he reached the quarterfinals of all four Grand Slam tournaments.
She triumphed against great champions, such as Billie Jean King herself, María Esther Bueno, Virginia Wade and Rosie Casals, among others. In our country, she was twice champion of the Open of the Republic and another two of the Río de la Plata Championship.
“It is my wish that many more championships will be born from this championship. And that many more Gabriela Sabatini will be born”, said at the presentation of the event alongside Martín Jaite, Florencia Labat, Matías Lammens and Agustín Calleri.
It should be remembered that Argentina did not have a contest of the highest international professional female circuit for 34 years, when Gabriela Sabatini obtained the title, in 1987.
