PITTSBURGH (AP) – Ben Roethlisberger threw for 253 yards and two touchdowns, rookie Najee Harris rushed for a career-high 122 yards and the Pittsburgh Steelers edged the Denver Broncos 27-19 on Sunday to end a three-game losing streak.
Managing the kind of balance that has been rare during a bumpy first month, the Steelers edged the Broncos (3-2), who have lost two in a row.
Denver was 18 points behind in the third quarter before bouncing back thanks to quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who started after spending the entire week on the NFL’s concussion protocol.
Bridgewater completed 24 of 38 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns in the fourth quarter. He led Denver to Pittsburgh’s 10-yard line in the final minute, but his fourth-down pass attempt to Courtland Sutton was blocked by James Pierre.
The loss makes Denver’s perfect September seem like a mirage. The Broncos added wins over the New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets last month. But in testing against the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh, in consecutive weeks, they fell short.
