In tournaments that so far are extremely even, First A, B, C, Second, Third and Development will play their respective tenth dates next Saturday.
Champagnat vs. Atlético del Rosario
HOW DO THEY GET THERE: Nine dates of the tournament have already been played and in First A only two were undefeated: Atlético del Rosario and Champagnat. Leader and escort face off at Estancias del Pilar in a great duel for the vanguard of a very competitive category. The Rosario won everything they played up to here and in the last match they had more difficulties than the table showed, since they beat Lomas by 24 to 3. Champa only could not beat Banco Nación, against whom he tied as a visitor in 26 so many; the rest were eight victories. On the ninth day they easily beat San Patricio, 43 to 5, and they are going for the most difficult commitment of the tournament.
WHAT DO THEY SEEK: For both of them it will be a nice challenge: the only promotion to reach the URBA Top 12. They come with very even numbers, although there are three more points for Rosario. The two casts showed good rugby proposals, although the people of Rosario stand out for the hierarchy that exists in their squad with several players who went through the UAR system. The program will be attractive to get closer to Pilar and see two possible finalists in the category.
BACKGROUND: After almost ten years, Champagnat and Plaza are playing again. The last clash between the two was in 2012, in General Pacheco, where the Maristas won for Zone A of Group I, by 24 to 20. To find a victory for Atlético, in Buenos Aires you have to leave until 2000 – the last title of the Rosario – when they won as a visitor by the minimum: 38 to 37.
Complete: La Plata vs. Pueyrredón, Mariano Moreno vs. Deportiva Francesa, Banco Nación vs. San Albano, Olivos vs. Los Matreros, San Carlos vs. San Patricio, and Lomas Athletic vs. Curupaytí.
San Cirano vs. Naval High School
HOW DO THEY GET THERE: San Cirano definitely left at the top of the division. With nine consecutive wins, he differs from the rest by his forceful attack and firmness to defend. On the ninth date he had a risk shock during his visit to Ingeniero Maschwitz who resolved it with authority, defeated Manuel Belgrano 17-9 and made the difference in the second half. Liceo Naval arrives in the third position and is in the classification position, although nine points behind the leader. In the last date he received San Martín in Núñez and lost, by 37 to 25, in what was his second defeat of the tournament.
WHAT DO THEY SEEK: Beginning with the restructuring of the tournaments in 2017, San Cirano is focused on a return to a higher category. In that year 2017 he lost the playoff against Pueyrredón, and in the last two seasons he was one step away from the playoffs. Liceo descended in 2018, when it could not in the direct crossing against San Fernando. In 2019 they were sixth, but a long way from the positions of the classification to the semifinals.
BACKGROUND: Again two of the protagonists of the category will face each other again after the very even clashes they had in 2019, in which San Cirano won, by 33 to 29 and 33 to 32. William last beat those of Villa Celina in 2017, when he left him without scoring so many in Núñez and beat him 24-0.
Complete: University of La Plata vs. San Fernando, Gymnastics and Fencing vs. Don Bosco, San Andrés vs. SITAS, Hurling vs. Daom, Delta RC vs. Manuel Belgrano, and San Martín vs. City of Bs. As.
Italian Club vs. Old georgian
HOW DO THEY GET THERE: After CUQ’s triumph over Vicentinos, there is only one undefeated in the category and it is Quilmes’ team. Italian Club is behind, after losing to the clubs that precede it in the table. The tanos recovered from the losses to Vicentinos and CUQ with a good triumph at Brandsen by 41-28 after a great second half. Winning on a court as difficult as Atlético and Progreso consolidated it in third place and took the undefeated home away from Brandsen’s. Old Georgian, on the other hand, comes much further back, with five victories and four defeats and has fallen categorically against Liceo Militar by 50 to 7.
WHAT DO THEY SEEK: The category is quite defined, with four clubs well distanced from the rest and very focused on the search to move up a division. Club Italiano is among them, with a very clear objective which is to return to the First B. At Old Georgian there was an important change in the squad and new faces in the club’s organization. All focused on consolidating a game idea, which in their return to the URBA competition already gave them very good results.
BACKGROUND: The only antecedents between both clubs were in the 2019 contest. Italian Club won at Bajo Flores by 36-24 and Old Georgian at Quilmes by 41-19.
They complete: Quilmes University Circle vs. El Retiro, Vicentinos vs. Atlético y Progreso, Liceo Militar vs. Areco RC., Naval Center vs. Luján RC, Virreyes vs. Monte Grande, and CASA de Padua vs. Lanús RC
Saint Brendan´s vs. Albatross
HOW DO THEY GET THERE: This will undoubtedly be one of the great clashes that the date will have between two clubs that have been protagonists since the season started. It should not be forgotten that in 2019 both were the ones who lost the division when they were in First C. On that occasion they suffered from very poor campaigns throughout the tournament. Saint Brendan’s is one of the great revelations of this year, with a game very compromised by the attack and with only one fall at the start of the year, when it lost tightly to the only leader, Club Argentino de Rugby. Then he won everything he played. Albatros also started very well, so much so as to erase the pale 2019 campaign, where he only won two games in the year. They were undefeated until the eighth date, but there they lost to Mercedes. On the following day, the oranges beat Los Cedros by 31 to 12 and those from Barrio Hernández lost on their court to Del Sur RC by 26 to 20.
WHAT DO THEY SEEK: They are among the five teams that dominate the category and where there will only be four places for the playoffs. Those led by Nacho Urbieta want to continue on a streak, since they won the last eight games they played. The people of La Plata want to recover their good start after losing in the last two days.
BACKGROUND: Wide superiority of Saint Brendan’s in the history, with eleven wins and only two losses against Albatros. The last matches were for orange in 2019, by 52 to 25 and 22 to 12. Albatros has not won since 2017, when he thrashed in Barrio Hernández by 41 to 0.
They complete: La Salle vs. San Miguel RHC, Federal Shot of San Pedro vs. Las Cañas RC, San Marcos vs. Atlético Chascomús, Tigre RC vs. Gymnastics and Fencing of Ituzaingó, Argentino de Rugby vs. Los Cedros, and Del Sur Rugby vs. Mercedes rc
Varela Jr. vs. The pines
HOW DO THEY GET THERE: Times of definitions are coming in the Third Division of Buenos Aires rugby. Varela and Los Pinos face each other with the goal of not being left out of the playoff spots. The locals are second after winning as a visitor at Banco Hipotecario by 41 to 13. Meanwhile, Los Pinos was in fourth place, after beating Beromama by 43 to 15, in what was the return to victory after the setback in Porteño.
WHAT DO THEY SEEK: After relegation in the Second Division, Varela started the year as a favorite in this category. In a very even area they arrive well positioned, although they have already lost twice. Los Pinos had a mixed 2019, far from fighting for any qualifying or relegation position. He started the year very well until he lost two matches in a row –Los Molinos and Porteño-. The victory against Beromama put them back in the fight for qualification.
BACKGROUND: Another of the games of the date that has not been played for many years. The last crossing between the two was in 2012, with Varela victory by 43 to 20. Los Pinos won in the south in 2011 by 30 to 5.
Complete: Mortgage Bank vs. City of Campana, Beromama vs. Vicente López, Porteño vs. Ezeiza, Los Molinos vs. Arsenal Náutico Zárate, and Federal Shot of Baradero vs. Saint Joseph.
Almafuerte vs. Berisso RC
HOW DO THEY GET THERE: Very good tournament for Almafuerte, which after the controversial victory against Atlético San Andrés consolidated itself at the tip of the Development zone without companions. On the ninth date they went to Marcos Paz and won with authority, by 46 to 12. Berisso arrives expectantly, in fourth place and leveling the line with Defenders of Glew. On the last day they beat Rivadavia de Lobos as locals by 38 to 24.
WHAT DO THEY SEEK: As rarely happened in this category, seven clubs were cut from the rest to fight for a place in the playoffs, where this weekend they may already have qualified. Almafuerte is with one foot inside, with nine points more than his rival. For Berisso the excursion to Ciudad Evita will be key to knowing about his future, since from that result it will be known if he arrives with chances or not to the last date.
BACKGROUND: In 2019 Berisso achieved one of the three victories over Almafuerte in the history. It was at home for 21 to 17. In the rematch, in Ciudad Evita, the locals thrashed by 50 to 27.
Complete: Floresta RC vs. PAC Gral. Rodríguez, Hebraic Society vs. Atlético San Andrés, Sanitary Works vs. Marcos Paz, and Rivadavia de Lobos vs. Municipality of Berazategui. Free: Defenders of Glew.
