Sources: Argentine Marcelo Rojo would have a fight at UFC 271 in February against Kyler Phillips

Argentine Marcelo Rojo will not return to the Octagon until next year. Sources confirmed to ESPN Deportes that the UFC offered him a match against Kyler Phillips at UFC 271 on February 12 at a venue to be confirmed.

Rojo (16-9) is originally from Córdoba and made his UFC debut on short notice against Charles Jourdain in a division above his at featherweight on March 13. Since then the promotion has sought to give him a second fight, but unfortunately the last three rivals had to withdraw from the commitment due to injury; first Kevin Croom, with whom he was scheduled to fight in August, then Jonathan Martínez, who ended up in the hospital after the weigh-in, and finally the Brazilian Daniel Santos, who was on duty for October 16.

Phillips is 9-2 and coming off losing to Raulian Paiva in one of the best bantamweight fights so far in 2021; it can be an ideal rival for the style of the ‘Pitbull’ to emerge.

Rojo has lived in Tijuana since 2015, where he trains at the Entram Gym with UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno, of which he is also a corner. Now they will be able to camp together, as the Mexican will defend his belt against Deiveson Figueiredo on January 22 at UFC 270.
