Packers vs. Bears - Game Report - October 17, 2021

CHICAGO (AP) – Aaron Rodgers threw a pair of touchdown passes and ran for another, guiding the Green Bay Packers to a 24-14 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

The Packers (5-1) defeated the Bears (3-3) for the 20th time in their last 23 meetings, including the playoffs, and improved to 22-5 against Chicago with Rodgers starting. They also kept the Bears from catching up at the top of the NFC’s North Division.

Rodgers snapped off a poor start with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Allen Lazard in the second quarter and a 12-yard connection to Aaron Jones in the third quarter that made it 17-7.

After Justin Fields found Darnell Mooney for a five-yard touchdown that cut the margin to three points with 8:44 left, it was Rodgers’ time to define the game. He scored on a six-yard run to cap a 75-yard drive that restored a 10-point lead. Immediately afterwards, he turned to the audience and shouted, “I am still his owner! I am still his owner!”

It was difficult to argue otherwise after Rodgers finished with 17 completions of 23 attempts for 195 yards and a passer rating of 128.

Davante Adams caught four passes for 89 yards. Aaron Jones rushed for 76 yards and had four receptions for another 34, helping the Packers stay perfect after falling 38-3 to the New Orleans Saints in Week 1.

Fields commanded an 80-yard scoring march on the Bears’ first offense, but didn’t get back on track. The 11th overall pick in the last draft completed 16 of 27 passes for 174 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Rookie Khalil Herbert rushed for 87 yards, taking advantage of the absences of injured David Montgomery and Damien Williams. He scored on a one-yard run on the first offense of the game.
