Hubert hurkacz does not cease to amaze within the ATP circuit nor achieve historic things for Polish tennis. With his new appearance in the Top 10 of the world rankings, the Wroclaw-born he became the second male player in Polish history to be among the top world rankings.
The last player from the aforementioned European country to break into the Top 10 was Wojciech Fibak on July 25, 1977. At that time, the Poznan native was overtaken by players such as Ilie Nastase (7th), Manuel Orantes (6th), Guillermo Vilas (4th), Bjorn Borg (2nd) or Jimmy Connors (1st).
In his carrer, Fibak achieved 15 trophies being his best years 1976, 1980 and 1982 lifting three titles in each. He was also a finalist in the 1976 Masters Grand Prix (current ATP Finals) losing to the Spanish Orantes.
During 2021, Hurkacz won three titles: Delray Beach, Metz and the Miami Masters 1000. He was also a Wimbledon semifinalist, his best performance in a Grand Slam tournament.
It should be remembered that at the female level there were also players who knew how to occupy the Top 10 in the Open Era. Agnieszka Radwańska was between 2008 and 2017 among the ten best in the world and Iga Swiatek (current number 11 of the planet) reached the fourth position in September 2021.
