Astros vs. Red Sox - Game Report - October 18, 2021

BOSTON (AP) – Kyle Schwarber hit a grand slam – Boston’s third in two games – and the Boston Red Sox crushed the Houston Astros for the second straight time, defeating them 12-3 on Monday for a 2-point lead. -1 in the American League Championship Series.

A game after JD Martinez and Rafael Devers each cleared the bases, Schwarber sent a 130-meter (430-foot) pitch into the right-field bleachers in the second inning. Boston is the first team ever to hit three bases loaded homers in a postseason series.

Martinez and Devers hit home runs again, Christian Arroyo also hit one, and Puerto Rican Enrique Hernandez had another two hits for Boston, which could advance to the World Series if it wins at Fenway Park in the fourth and fifth games Tuesday and on Wednesday. The Astros need to win at least one for the series to get back to Houston.

Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez gave up five hits, including a three-run homer by Kyle Tucker, and struck out seven.
